London, the capital city of England

London, the capital city of England, stands as one the world’s most important cities and tourist destinations in the world. This fascinating cultural melting pot is something which Londoners take pride in. London buzzes night and day with an unforgettable energy, and each area of the city has its own distinct atmosphere.

About United Kingdom

London’s heart known as the City of London or simply the City is its commercial and financial heart. Top financial institutions have their headquarters there. The centre of London is an area which also has a dense concentration of landmarks, theatres, museums, nightspots and famous shopping areas like Covent Garden, Carnaby Street and Oxford Street. Starting out from there, you will discover the famous Big Ben Tower, the Westminster Abbey, the London Eye, the Tower Bridge and other wonders which are short distance from each other.

When in the City, visit the Tower of London. Its foundation was laid in 1078 when William the Conqueror ordered the White Tower to be built. This was done to protect London from invaders and the Normans from the people of the City of London. The other main attraction within the City is the St Paul’s Cathedral, built between 1675 and 1710.

In North London, you will discover a multicultural and vibrant region, which is steeped in history and renowned for its culture. Areas of interest include Hampstead Heath and Primrose Hill with their huge green spaces, fabulous views and village feel, characterful Camden with its eclectic market and live music scene, and Green Lanes, where you can enjoy Turkish, Greek and Kurdish food. Football fans can head to Arsenal to take a tour of the famous Emirates stadium.

From European, Californian to Indian, Vietnamese, Pakistanis, Thai or Chinese food, everything is there! If you are an fan of Asian cuisine head to South London to Southall, Wembley (Ealing Road) or Tooting.

London has something for every taste. For fashion shops and boutiques head to Sloane Street. Marks and Spencer is located in Oxford Street. Marble Arch is home to Virgin, HMV, H&M, Top Shop, Borders, Next, Gap and Muji.
