Overview

Italian trains: Frecciarossa

Anyone travelling across Italy by train will soon become familiar with the Frecciarossa, which are high speed modern trains. Also known as the Red Arrow, the Frecciarrossa is operated by Trenitalia, the national railway company of Italy. The popular high speed trains whisk passengers at a speed of 225 mph from one end of the country to the other. They carry over a million passengers monthly just on the Turin and Salerno route! The most popular route is from Milan to Rome. Trenitalia also serves Sicily and Sardinia, so make sure you check the rail map before planning your route. Another beautiful journey is from the north of the country to the stunning Amalfi coast taking-in the beautiful Italian countryside along the way.

Practical information

There is no check-in although we do recommend you arrive at least 15 minutes before departure. A ticket inspector will check your ticket on the train.

    Great train, great ride |
"Arrival at Napoli centrale is a tad daunting as it is huge and on multiple levels, but the track layout and boarding procedure is simple and easy for international travellers to understand and use, the carriages are very clean and clearly marked with plenty of leg and arm room, we did a majority of our travel within Europe via the railway system and every ride was enjoyable and memorable but this ride had mount Vesuvius outside our window and the view for the remainder of the trip was just as memorable, the upside of our ride, we were travelling at 296kph at one stage, down side, travelling at 296kph you get to your destination to soon. All up it was an excellent trip and I recommend this service to everyone wondering how they will get from point A to B whilst travelling through Italy. "

"We travelled from naples to Flumicino airport by train. The area around Naples main station is very bad with lots of suspect looking people hanging around. Lots of dodgy street vendors and large groups just milling about. Once inside the station it was fine with a heavy police presence thankfully. Otherwise train and connections were great and easy to understand. so no issues at all. "

"Smooth and enjoyable experience. A lot easier and more cost effective than air transport. I do wish the cafe car was restocked more often. (Possibly at each major stop) "
